The term Civilisation State has come to prominence recently and is likely to gain more traction as academics and political journalists lend more credibility to the concept. A Civilisation State builds on the more common notion of the Nation State and can be defined as a country that claims to represent a distinctive and specific civilisation. According to Wikipedia, a civilisation is any complex society characterised by urban development and social stratification. Economically, civilisations display more complex patterns of ownership and exchange than less organised societies. Just as important, civilisation can also refer to the culture of a complex society. Every society has a specific set of ideas and customs that make it unique. Civilisations tend to develop intricate cultures, including a state-based decision making apparatus, a literature, professional art, architecture, organised religion and complex customs of education. In essence, the Civilisation State implies that each civilisation needs political institutions that reflect its own unique civilisation.
