Donald Trump Vs Julius Caesar

President Trump’s recent high profile visit to Britain was once again mired in controversy as he deemed it acceptable to tweet insults from Air Force 1 as he approached the country from a dizzying height. The red carpet welcome and the pomp and ceremony that greeted him and his wife certainly raised many eyebrows amongst those who believe that President Trump is not fit for the high office that he holds.

But when needs must and a country has to bend over backwards to win a trade deal, then a sovereign nation has to do what a sovereign nation has to do.

Although, I have not had the pleasure of meeting either President Trump or the emperor Julius Caesar, there are many striking similarities. Caesar’s most famous quotation – Veni, Vidi, Vici – I came I saw I conquered – could have been written by or for Donald Trump as he paraded his family to meet our own royaly family. However, under the circumstances, it would be more appropriate to alter Caesar’s quotation to the more apt – Veni, Vidi, et Contumeliis Affecti – I came I saw and I insulted !
